Sedgemoor businesses rally to support Bridgwater Foodbank this Christmas

Wednesday 3rd December, 2025

Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce shines a light on member led campaigns and calls on local firms and residents to get involved before the 15th of December

With Christmas fast approaching, Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce is calling on local businesses and residents to support community led food collections for Bridgwater Foodbank, helping families who are facing a difficult winter.

One of our members, MJ Parsons and Sons Ltd, has launched a collection at their business premises, encouraging staff, suppliers, customers and the wider community to donate essential items. Their efforts sit alongside Sedgemoor fm’s 2025 Tonne of Tins appeal, which is once again aiming to gather a huge volume of tins and long lasting food for Bridgwater Foodbank in the run up to Christmas.

Having needed the support of the Foodbank ourselves during the early days of our business, we know just how much of a lifeline it can be for families facing tough times. Supporting this cause now is our way of giving back to the community that has supported us, and we’re proud to stand alongside other local businesses to help make a real difference during the Sedgemoor FM Tonne of Tins campaign.

As a Chamber, we know that no one in our community should have to face going hungry. Bridgwater Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust network, provides emergency food and support to people in crisis who are referred to them. They rely entirely on donations from individuals, churches, schools, community groups and businesses to continue this work.

Through campaigns like MJ Parsons and Sons’ Christmas collection and Sedgemoor fm’s Tonne of Tins appeal, our business community can play a very real part in supporting local families, not just with food on the table but with the reassurance that their neighbours and local firms care.

What is needed and where to donate

Bridgwater Foodbank has asked in particular for the following items.

  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned vegetables and tinned fruit
  • Long life milk
  • Pasta and rice
  • Cereals
  • Toiletries
  • Toilet rolls and household essentials such as washing up liquid
  • Christmas treats such as selection boxes for children and hot chocolate for the colder nights

Donations can be dropped off at:

All donations need to be collected or received by the 15th of December to allow time for distribution before Christmas.

How local businesses and residents can help

We are inviting businesses, community groups and individuals across Sedgemoor to get involved in any of the following ways.

  • Set up a collection point at your workplace and encourage staff and customers to donate suitable items
  • Drop tins and other long lasting food at one of the public collection points listed above
  • Make a monetary donation directly to Bridgwater Foodbank to help them purchase priority items
  • Share details of the appeal on your social media channels, websites and newsletters to help spread the word
  • Talk to colleagues, friends and family about the campaign and why it matters

One tin or ten, every contribution makes a difference when it is added to the efforts of the wider community.
