On Your Bike Recycle seeks new Trustees to help shape stronger communities across Somerset

Tuesday 3rd March, 2026

On Your Bike Recycle Limited a local bike recycling charity empowering people through training, support and sustainable transport is looking for new Trustees to join its forward-thinking board.

Founded in 2011, On Your Bike is a registered charity operating from 2 fully equipped workshops in Taunton and Bridgwater. At both sites, trained mechanics and volunteers recycle donated bikes for resale, provide a full range of bike services and parts sales, and deliver training courses for local people.

From the outset, the charity has focused on supporting disadvantaged individuals to build skills, confidence and employability. Their programmes have helped people affected by social exclusion, physical disabilities, mental health issues, homelessness, long-term unemployment, as well as ex-service personnel, refugees and ex-offenders. Many go on to further training or gainful employment, including formal qualifications such as City & Guilds.

On Your Bike also plays an active role in local sustainability and low-carbon transport. Since 2019, the team has re-sold 2,803 bikes and serviced 8,061 more, with thousands of additional bikes recycled for spares since 2010 – helping families access affordable bikes while keeping “unsalvageable” bikes out of landfill. Alongside this, the charity promotes health, active travel and safe cycling in local communities and schools, and works with organisations who share strong environmental and social values.

To help guide the next stage of its development, On Your Bike Recycle is now seeking additional Trustees and is particularly keen to hear from people with skills in:

  • HR
  • Law
  • Governance
  • Fundraising

Trustees will use their expertise to:

  • Strengthen and protect the charity’s future
  • Support staff and volunteers
  • Help keep services running for the people who rely on them
  • Grow the charity’s impact across Somerset

The time commitment is designed to be manageable, with just one meeting a quarter, plus occasional input when specialist advice is needed.

No previous board experience is required. On Your Bike Recycle is open to first-time trustees, especially younger voices who are enthusiastic, community-minded, and ready to use their skills for good.

Anyone interested in finding out more or getting involved can reach out via the charity’s website or social media channels, or email Tracey@on-your-bike.org.

On Your Bike Recycle is inviting new Trustees to join them in helping keep Somerset moving forward, one bike and one opportunity at a time.
