Free Google AI Professional Certificate helps Somerset workers and businesses build everyday AI skills

Monday 26th October, 2026

A free, self-paced programme of eight online courses is open for enrolment, with support from trainers and an official Google certificate on completion

For many businesses, the question is no longer whether AI will affect the way they work, but how to help their teams use it well. A free programme now open for enrolment offers a practical starting point: the Google AI Professional Certificate, delivered by Cosmic on behalf of the Good Things Foundation, in partnership with Google.org.

The programme is hands-on and practical, made up of eight standalone online courses teaching everyday AI skills such as prompting, content creation and data analysis, totalling 13 hours of free content. Topics include AI fundamentals, brainstorming and planning, research and insights, writing and communicating, content creation, data analysis, and building and deploying apps.

Learners complete the course at their own pace within a three-month window from sign-up, with support sessions available from Cosmic trainers. On completion, participants receive an official Google Professional Certificate, plus a digital badge through Credly that can be added to a CV or LinkedIn profile.

The programme is aimed at workers who want to upskill and become more future-resilient, including those in administration, secretarial roles, sales, customer service and support, and data entry. For employers, that makes it a low-cost way to help staff build confidence with AI and put it to work on everyday tasks, without the cost of formal training or time away from the job.
