The latest Hinkley Point C Supply Chain Newsletter has just been published, bringing local businesses up to date on the progress of Europe’s largest construction project and the opportunities emerging from it. As HPC moves through the second half of 2026 and towards Unit 1’s commissioning in 2030, the newsletter also signals a shift in focus towards the next wave of opportunities, including the long-term operational contracts that will be needed to run the power station for at least 60 years.
For Somerset businesses already in the supply chain, or considering getting involved, this edition is worth a closer look. Here are the highlights.
Construction at its peak. Around 14,000 people are now working on site as HPC reaches the peak of its construction phase. The bulk of civil engineering work is complete, with almost all buildings due to be finished by the end of 2026. Focus has now shifted to Mechanical Fit-Out, with Unit 1’s primary circuit installed and Unit 2’s reactor core due to be fitted this summer.
A new Socio-economic and Environmental Impact Report. The 2026 report shows the scale of benefit the project is delivering to the region: £5.4 billion spent with 1,500 businesses across the South West, £20 million in community grants to 400 local organisations, 19,500 people trained through local Centres of Excellence, and 1,740 apprentices trained, well ahead of the original 1,000 target.
A call for sustainability solutions. HPC’s Sustainability Forum, made up of representatives from major project contractors, is reviewing local companies that can offer new sustainability products, services or innovations, opening up a fresh opportunity for suppliers with relevant expertise.
Supplier stories from the region. The newsletter features case studies from RK Bell Group, whose early engagement with EDF and the Somerset Chamber led to the formation of the Somerset Infrastructure Alliance, and Mathias & Sons, an Avonmouth family business supplying PPE and workwear to the HPC workforce since 2018, both examples of how local firms have built long-term relationships with the project.
Supplier portal re-engagement. A data cleanse of the HPC Supply Chain portal has now been completed after around a third of registered supplier email addresses were found to be out of date. Businesses that haven’t updated their details risk being archived and dropping out of search results, so it’s worth checking your listing is current.
Wider opportunities. The newsletter also covers Sizewell C’s new partnership with the Supply Chain Sustainability School, which has opened free training resources to the HPC supply chain, and the launch of Jaggaer, Sizewell C’s new single platform for contract and procurement opportunities.
