Bridgwater Town Deal is the highlight of Chamber AGM

Friday 23rd February, 2024

Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 22nd of February at the picturesque Cossington Park.

Gavin Roberts, Chairman of the Chamber, hosted the event where members celebrated the work that the Bridgwater Chamber had done of the last year including impactful networking events such as that with Rebecca Pow MP, the DEFRA Minister, and successful initiatives like the Bridgwater Business Expo and the Sedgemoor Business Awards that celebrated local enterprise.

The Chamber set ambitious targets for growth and financial stability, aiming to increase its representation in Bridgwater and add more value for its business members with things such as increased training opportunities.

The AGM was delighted to welcome Paul Moore, Chair of the Bridgwater Town Deal and a Board member of the Chamber. Paul outlined the 11 transformative Town Deal projects planned with the £23.2 million of government funding, including the Tidal Barrier, The Celebration Mile and the rejuvenation of the historic docks, set to enhance Bridgwater’s landscape and strengthen community engagement.

Diogo Rodrigues, Bridgwater Chamber Manager said “I’m thrilled about the tremendous opportunity that the £23.2 million Bridgwater Town Deal represents for our community. This government investment is a game-changer, and it’s not just a sum on paper; it’s a catalyst for transformation. Two of the projects under this initiative, the Tidal Barrier and the Restoration of the Docks, are particularly vital for our town. The Tidal Barrier will protect Bridgwater’s heart, ensuring its safety while unlocking the potential for housing and employment growth. Meanwhile, the Restoration of the Docks promises to breathe new life into our historic waterfront, creating an exciting leisure and tourism destination.”

The Chamber offers its sincere thanks to Cossington Park for hosting the AGM and for the catering, our members for coming along and our special guest speaker.
