Bridgwater Together Community Event Going Ahead Despite COVID-19

Tuesday 14th April, 2020

Bridgwater Together is an important annual event celebrating the Somerset town’s vibrant cultural diversity through music, food, story-telling, dance, film and information sharing. This year, despite the COVID-19 emergency, the event will still go ahead online on Saturday the 18th April. The event is supported by Bridgwater Trades Union Council, Somerset Film, Unite the Union, Hidden Voices, the TUC and the Hinkley C Community Fund.

Rather than cancelling the event altogether the organisers, Somerset Diverse Communities, have found a creative way to host the event using the video conferencing platform Zoom. Between 6pm and 8pm audiences will be able to log in online to enjoy presentations and performances from the representatives of minority communities living in Bridgwater.

To see the full programme and to register for the event visit the Somerset Diverse Communities Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/SomersetDiverseCommunities or contact Michal at: Michal@Somersetrcc.org.uk

Michal Puzynski, Community Engagement Worker for Somerset Diverse Communities said: “In an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19, many concerts, festivals and other events have been cancelled or rescheduled. Somerset Diverse Communities has also been forced to postpone our upcoming projects and social initiatives. However, we won’t give up! We are doing our best to adapt our activities to the current situation. The Internet provides us with unique opportunities to continue our work despite the threat of the pandemic, making it possible for us to showcase some of the rich cultural diversity in Bridgwater.”

Somerset Diverse Communities celebrate and share the diversity in the county; bringing people together, developing skills and building long term relationships and networks whilst working collaboratively with BME communities in Somerset.
