Air filter manufacturing and services company launches net zero plans

Thursday 18th August, 2022

Press Release 18th August 2022

A FAMILY-RUN air filter manufacturing and services company has unveiled its vision for the future including sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of its manufacturing process

Jasun Envirocare on Parrett Way in Bridgwater has recently reviewed its carbon footprint and says Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is key to its ongoing success.

Colin Hitch, Managing Director of Jasun Envirocare, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, says: “We’ve had a successful 50 years in business, and we want to have another 50 years, and even more, so to do this, we must become more environmentally friendly and move with the times. We’ve recently worked with some larger companies, which has helped us focus our attention on understanding our carbon footprint. Not only is this planet positive, but it also makes good commercial sense too as it is becoming increasingly common to have to report such data in tenders.

“We have also recruited many Millennials and Generation Z’s into our team, and they have a different, but wonderful, mindset and have helped increase our awareness of the environment and the need to project a positive image. COP 26 and subsequent government legalisation has also intensified the need for action and we’re right behind this.

“We are currently undertaking a review of our carbon footprint, highlighting usage and output. There has also been an internal review to assess the measures we can control ourselves.

“We have been accredited to the Environmental Standard ISO14001 since 2004 and as part of that process we regularly undertake waste management reviews, which have resulted in an increase of recycling across the company, a reduction of the amount of waste sent to landfill to proportion of goods sold, the installation of recycling stations across each area of the business, and increasing employee awareness. Other measures we have taken include optical character recognition (OCR) to reduce paper usage and storage, ongoing replacement of lighting to LED, upgrading buildings to improve energy efficiency and, post Covid, continuing to engage with our customers and suppliers online rather than in person.

“As well as all of this, we have also moved all company cars over to hybrid models and are reviewing the effectiveness of migrating our vehicle fleet to electric. We are also looking to create sustainability champions within our work force to help increase employee awareness and engagement, backed up with ongoing training.”

Jasun Envirocare Plc was first established in London in 1972 by Mr Trevor and Mrs Barbara Foot and by the 1980s had moved to Billingshurst in West Sussex. This factory was destroyed by the great storm of 1987 and the company then moved to Bridgwater, where it has been been for the last 35 years.

In 1999 Jasun Envirocare launched https://www.jfilters.com/, making it the first air filters company worldwide to offer its full range of products online.

The company, whose strapline is ‘a breath of fresh air,’ has a proud history and reputation as a provider of quality bespoke and standard filtration products and services.

It provides a ‘one-stop-shop’ for filter supply, distribution and installation to meet all commercial air hygiene and water treatment needs. It manufactures and supplies filter products that meet International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) and European (Eurovent) requirements.

Jasun has grown to be one of the UK’s leading air filter manufacturers and prides itself on its family values. The name Jasun was created from the founder’s daughter’s names, Jane and Susan, taking the Ja from Jane’s name and the Su and n from both Susan and Jane. While the company is now onto its third generation of family members, its founding principles remain true.

The company employs more than 200 people in Bridgwater and Waterlooville and has factories and offices across Europe.
