Free Somerset session to help employers tackle the cost of sickness absence

Monday 16th March, 2026

Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce is pleased to share a free business support event that will help employers better understand the impact of sickness absence on their organisation and take practical steps to manage it more effectively.

Sickness absence and its impact on your business will take place on Wednesday the 22nd of April from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre, Burnham-on-Sea.

The session is designed to help businesses uncover the real cost of sickness absence, from lost productivity and increased operational costs to the effect it can have on team morale and wellbeing. It will also explore the early signs employers should look out for, how to reduce avoidable absence, and simple ways to build a healthier and more resilient workplace.

This free event is aimed at employers, managers, HR leads and anyone responsible for supporting staff wellbeing or business performance.

Attendees can expect practical, focused advice on:

  • The real cost of sickness absence
  • Early warning signs to be aware of
  • Ways to reduce avoidable absence
  • Steps to support a stronger and more sustainable workplace

The event is being organised by Somerset Council and offers a useful opportunity for local businesses to strengthen their approach to staff wellbeing while also improving resilience and performance.

Please note that on-site parking is limited, so attendees are advised to use nearby parking, including Oxford Street Car Park.
