Last chance for Somerset SMEs to access free Start Up & Grow support

Monday 23rd February, 2026

Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce is encouraging established small and medium sized businesses in Somerset to take advantage of the Somerset Start Up & Grow programme before registrations close at the end of February.

Funded by Somerset Council through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, this fully funded scheme gives eligible SMEs up to 6 hours of tailored, one to one support from experienced local business advisers.

The programme is designed for businesses that want to grow with more confidence and clarity. Following an in depth review session, each business receives ongoing support and a bespoke action plan focused on its specific goals and challenges.

Advisers can help with:

  • Strategy and business planning
  • Finance and cash flow
  • Marketing and customer acquisition
  • Operations and systems
  • Innovation and market diversification
  • HR and people issues

Who is it for?

The programme is open to:

  • SMEs with fewer than 250 employees
  • Businesses operating in or located within the Somerset Council local authority area
  • Businesses paying taxes or business rates to Somerset Council

The support has been extremely popular and the provider is keen to ensure as many eligible businesses as possible benefit before the programme closes to new applications.

Pre start businesses are no longer able to access one to one support through this scheme, however they can still access free online workshops and resources to help them explore their business ideas.

How to register

Somerset businesses that would like to find out more or register their interest can do so online:

Eligible SMEs are encouraged to get in touch as soon as possible so they do not miss out before registrations close at the end of February.
