New Charity Shops Empower Somerset’s Youth Through Creativity and Enterprise

Two new charity gift shops are set to open in Taunton and Bridgwater this month, offering more than just handmade gifts; they’re providing young people with life-changing opportunities. 

Operated by Young Somerset, the Bold & Brave shops will officially launch on Tuesday, 18th November, with ribbon-cutting ceremonies and community celebrations planned at both locations. The Taunton shop which has relocated to a new easily accessible ground floor location in Taunton’s Independent Quarter, will officially be opened at 10:30 AM, followed by the Bridgwater shop in Angel Place Shopping Centre at 2:00 PM and you are invited to attend the celebrations.

Bold & Brave is a social enterprise designed to empower young people aged 14 -25, particularly those facing barriers to education, employment, or training. Through the Young Somerset supported internship, young people gain hands-on work experience in retail, hospitality, and entrepreneurship, participants obtain valuable skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose. 

“We’re incredibly proud of what Bold & Brave represents,” said Siobhan Gallagher, Head of Targeted Youth Support at Young Somerset. “It’s a space where young people can grow, connect, and showcase their talents. The grand opening will be a celebration of their hard work and creativity, as well as an opportunity for local business and supporters to come together to meet the team, explore the shops and enjoy refreshments served by the young people themselves.
