Exciting Summer of Sports for Young People in Bower

Friday 21st June, 2024

Young people in Bower are set to enjoy a summer filled with fun and engaging activities, thanks to a new initiative spearheaded by Councillor Diogo Rodrigues and Bridgwater Chamber Member, Job Solutions.

Every Thursday in August at 2:30 PM, Bower Park will come alive with one-hour multisport sessions designed to keep young people active and entertained. These sessions, led by Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP), will offer a variety of sports and physical activities, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Refreshments will also be provided, making it a perfect summer outing for young people in Bower.

We are delighted with the opportunity given by Cllr Diogo Rodrigues and Job Solutions. Through the Jump Start programme at SASP, we see the positive impact that sports and activities have on young people. Thanks to Job Solutions, we are able to bring sessions to Bower this summer.

Aaron McGough from SASP

The programme aims not only to provide entertainment but also to promote health, wellbeing and community spirit. Young people will have the chance to discover new interests and develop essential life skills.

Job Solutions are delighted to be involved with SASP and the summer event to be held at Bower Park. We believe the jump start programme will enable the young people of Bridgwater to build self-confidence and develop other skills that are easily transferrable to the local workplace, such as teamwork. This can only be valuable for us and other local employers in Bridgwater and we think it is essential and just common sense to try help our next workforce. We just know the kids are going to have a great time!

Geraldine Cross, Director of Job Solutions

Recognising the need for more youth activities in the area, especially during half term breaks, Councillor Rodrigues worked to partner with SASP and local business Job Solutions to deliver this series of free multisport sessions this August.

It’s important for businesses to support our young people as it benefits not just the young people but the entire community. I look forward to hopefully working with more businesses to create further opportunities for young people in East Bridgwater and encourage you to get in touch if you can support.
