Chamber delight at £4 Billion UK Battery Factory

Thursday 29th February, 2024

The Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce is delighted with the announcement of selection of the Agratas Gigafactory, a Tata Group global battery business, as the first occupant of the Gravity Smart Campus. This decision means Bridgwater will be home to the UK’s largest electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility, representing a £4 billion investment, and creating 4,000 direct jobs and thousands more in the supply chain.

This significant investment not only helps secure the economic future of Bridgwater but also marks a pivotal moment for the entire South West’s sustainable growth. The gigafactory’s impact on our local economy and the broader UK’s green industrial revolution is hugely significant.

Diogo Rodrigues, Chamber Manager

By the early 2030s, it is anticipated to account for nearly half of the UK automotive sector’s battery manufacturing capacity requirements. Throughout every phase of the development, the local community will be thoroughly informed.

The Bridgwater Chamber is excited about the training and employment opportunities this will bring for our local workforce and are eager to ensure that businesses in Bridgwater are ready to go and first in line to make the most of the opportunities from the site as soon as they arise.
