SOMERSET SUPER LEAGUE: WHO WON?

Thursday 29th July, 2021

On 24 July 2021, Walpole Dunn hosted the Somerset Super League; a charity football tournament in aid of bibic and in celebration of Walpole Dunn’s 5th anniversary year.

Bibic is Walpole Dunn’s ‘Charity of the Year 2021’. At Walpole Dunn, we are proud to be supporting a local Somerset charity that provides exceptional support to young people with developmental and neurological difficulties across the country. Overall, the tournament was a huge success, with £1,000 raised for bibic via donations from our teams, supporters, sponsors and suppliers. Do you want to support this fantastic cause? You can still donate via: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/walpole-dunn

THE TOURNAMENT

The day started with a 10:30am kick-off, as teams took part in a round robin group stage. Throughout the day, Really Awesome Coffee provided fantastic food and drink to teams and supporters, and even donated a portion of their proceeds to bibic to contribute to our fundraising efforts.

Despite valiant efforts in this stage of the tournament, and some amazing goals, Walpole Dunn and Cardstream were knocked out.

In the semi-finals Albert Goodman faced off against OFC’s, while Class on Grass faced Cotton Motors. After two intense matches, where all teams played exceptional football, Albert Goodman and Class on Grass were successful in beating their opponents. The two winners then proceeded to the final, to battle it out for the Knight Electrical Cup.

Despite both teams fighting hard, the final match ended in a 1-1 draw, forcing the teams into a nail-biting penalty shoot out.

Ultimately, whilst both teams scored several penalties, Class on Grass walked away deserving winners of the Knight Electrical Cup!

SOMERSET SUPER LEAGUE SUCCESS!

Trophy sponsors, Knight Electrical Ltd, commented, “It gives us great pleasure to sponsor the Knight Electrical Cup for such a good and noble cause as bibic. A national charity that has given an amazing amount of hope and support to many families throughout the years. We would like to offer our congratulations to the winning team [Class on Grass] and a very big thank you to everyone that has taken part and helped put together this tournament.”

And Class on Grass were not the only winners! Throughout the day, bibic ran an exciting raffle, filled with football themed prizes. Over 100 tickets were sold, and players from Albert Goodman and Cotton Motors walked away winners of Taunton Town tickets, a Van Persie signed replica shirt, and a Wayne Rooney signed photo.

Overall, despite the threat of rain, it was an incredibly fun day for all involved, with lots of winners, and a lot of money raised for bibic. Thank you to everyone who supported this event and bibic, and helped make the day such a great success. We could not have raised £1,000 without you!
