Somerset Colleges Unite to Launch New College Group: UCS College Group

Monday 11th August, 2025

A bold new chapter in Somerset’s education landscape began this August, as Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) and Strode College came together to form the University Centre Somerset College Group (UCS College Group.) BTC campuses became Colleges; Bridgwater College, Cannington College, and Taunton College whilst Strode College retained its name.

University Centre Somerset, the group’s well-established higher education arm, remains a core part of this new, ambitious group.

Its mission? To transform lives and communities through learning and partnerships.

Andy Berry CBE, CEO UCS College Group “This merger is a strategic response to the evolving educational and economic needs of Somerset. By combining our strengths, we can provide more comprehensive support to our employer partners, students and staff; further contributing to the regional and national economy. It’s about providing our communities with the opportunities, tools and support to thrive in an ever-changing world.”

As one of the largest college groups in England, UCS College Group is ideally placed to influence and shape educational and economic policies benefitting Somerset; playing a pivotal role in driving initiatives that deliver inward investment, enhance local infrastructures and ensure educational advancements translate into broad-scale economic benefits. Partners will benefit from the group’s ability to leverage resources and initiatives that align education with local economic and skills needs.
