Somerset Chamber of Commerce Broadband survey

Tuesday 23rd July, 2019

Somerset currently lags behind both the South West and National averages for coverage at under 90%. Demand for fast and reliable broadband is only going to increase as files sizes grow, digital reporting methods like making tax digital become more prevalent and remote working offers more flexibility in a skills and labour short environment. To ensure the region stays competitive as a place to both live and work, it’s essential that we highlight the areas where demand is highest to ISP’s local authorities and others to increase coverage.

The region’s digital infrastructure is a key area of focus for Somerset Chamber of Commerce, often being raised as a limiting factor for businesses of all sizes. Broadband quality and availability across the county has a significant impact on the performance of the business community, from EPOS transactions and making tax digital to ever increasing file sizes and remote and flexible working for staff.

Whilst we have almost 90% coverage of the region for ‘Superfast’ broadband (89.7% more than 24Mbps), Somerset lags behind the South West average of 94.3% and the national average of 96%*.

The Broadband Survey 2019 by Somerset Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by TrueSpeed is designed to give a better understanding of current and future demand for broadband across the county of Somerset. As a provider of Ultrafast Broadband (200Mbps +), TrueSpeed have their roots in Somerset. Established in 2015 to deliver a fibre-optic infrastructure network across South West England, TrueSpeed provides residential and commercial customers with multi-gigabit capable symmetrical speeds through a full fibre network. Visit the TrueSpeed website https://www.truespeed.com/

By completing this short survey, you will support Somerset Chamber of Commerce’s lobbying efforts and give a more accurate picture of demand from business across the region.

As a thank you, we’re giving away an iPad to one lucky respondent (terms apply).
