Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce thanks Honorary President Steve Leahy as he steps down

Monday 15th December, 2025

Founding member and long standing champion of the Chamber passes the baton to the current board

Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce would like to formally acknowledge and thank Honorary President, Steve Leahy, who has decided that now is the right time to stand down from his role.

Steve was a founding member of Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce in 2008 and quickly became the face of the Chamber. For many years he was the go to person for local queries, including media enquiries, and a first point of contact for businesses wanting to understand what was happening in the town and wider area.

Steve’s contribution to the Chamber and to the wider business community has been exceptional. He has given his time, energy and experience over many years, often behind the scenes, to make sure local businesses were heard, supported and kept informed. From being a trusted first point of contact for so many enquiries, to helping businesses understand and access opportunities linked to major projects in our area, Steve has made a real difference. On behalf of the Chamber, I want to thank Steve for everything he has done, and to wish him the very best for what comes next.

Matthew Ruddle, Chair of Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce

He worked tirelessly to promote the local business community, often during periods when the challenges seemed to outweigh the successes. Through those times, Steve helped to keep the Chamber afloat, visible and relevant, ensuring that local businesses continued to have a voice.

Among his many contributions, Steve initiated the local Hinkley Point supply chain project for Bridgwater businesses, helping firms understand and access opportunities linked to one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region.

In 2023 Steve stepped into the role of Honorary President, reflecting the deep respect held for him across the Chamber and the wider business community. Having supported the transition to a new, dynamic board, he has now chosen to pass on the baton so that the current leadership team can continue to drive the Chamber’s growth in the years ahead.

We extend our sincere thanks to Steve for his many years of dedication, energy and advocacy for local business. His contribution has played a significant part in shaping the Chamber we are today.
