Roberts Waste Ltd receives top safety accreditation

Wednesday 23rd November, 2022

A FAMILY-RUN waste management company from Somerset has recently been awarded accreditation for achieving excellence in health and safety in the workplace (November 2022).

Roberts Waste Ltd, part of S Roberts Group, received the award from Alcumus SafeContractor, which recognises rigorous standards in health and safety management.

Beccy Roberts, Director of Waste Management at the Bridgwater-based company, explains: “We are thrilled to have received this accreditation as we pride ourselves on our health and safety policies and are committed to maintaining high standards and staff training, which is vital in our industry.”

Alcumus SafeContractor is an accreditation scheme that assesses the health and safety arrangements, policies and qualifications of contractors. Many major clients recognise the scheme and accept the SafeContractor certificate as confirmation of competency in health and safety practice.

Gemma Archibald, Chief Operating Officer at Alcumus, said: “Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place.

“More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Roberts Waste Ltd has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector. SafeContractor plays a vital role in supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs, while working with their contractors as they progress through the accreditation process.”

Under the SafeContractor scheme businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users via a website.

Client organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These clients agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.

S Roberts Group’s wealth of experience spans more than 90 years and is one of the South West’s leading waste management companies. It provides specialist industry and geographical knowledge to advise commercial and domestic clients on the best possible waste solutions.

Based in Bridgwater, Somerset, the third-generation firm is run by Beccy and her sister Vicky, who took over the business from their father, Terry, in 2004.

The dedicated and friendly team work closely in partnership with clients to ensure health and safety standards are maintained and to deliver an efficient and environmentally conscious service.

The company offers skip, tipper and plant hire, bulk earth moving, grab hire, recycled aggregates, licensed asbestos removal and demolition services for domestic and commercial clients across the South West.

In 2006, it was the first demolition company in the Westcountry to launch a specialist and licensed asbestos removal service.

S Roberts Group holds its environmental considerations and solutions at the core of its business and adheres to these when advising and making decisions on the management of waste, resources, emissions and transport.
