HMRC’s Fifth set of regional and trade stats

Monday 26th October, 2020

Following publication of HMRC’s fourth set of regional and trade stats for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) and Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS).

Today these figures have been updated for a fifth set of official statistics.

The CJRS data provides analysis of claims up to 31 August, from applications submitted to HMRC by 30 September. It once again contains data by Local Authority and Parliamentary Constituency, and includes a snapshot of flexible furlough figures, broken down by region and business sectors.

There is also daily time series data showing furlough information and also point in time data for furlough on / as at 31 August.

Please note that claims can still be made for periods from 1 July (until 30 November) which means the CJRS data for July and August claims is subject to revision.

For the second time, SEISS data contains detail on the second grant of the scheme – SEISS 2, which covers the period of its opening on 17 August, up to 30 September. The information is broken down by age, gender, business sectors and regions down to Local Authority and Parliamentary Constituency level. There is also a summary of claims under each SEISS scheme.

We have also published an analysis document – Official Statistics analysis report of ended furloughs. This analysis is based on HM Revenue and Customs’ (HMRC) data for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) and HMRC Pay As You Earn (PAYE) Real Time Information (RTI) up to 31 August 2020. It is an analysis of that data to see when people were furloughed and when they returned to payroll.

It finds that 90% (3.9 million) of the 4.3 million employees that left the CJRS furlough scheme between April and July 2020 were still on their original payroll in August 2020, suggesting they remained working for their original employer.

The CJRS statistics published today can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/coronavirus-job-retention-scheme-statistics-october-2020

The SEISS statistics published today can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/self-employment-income-support-scheme-statistics-october-2020
