Extra public site visits released for Bridgwater Tidal Barrier Scheme after high demand

Friday 30th January, 2026

Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce is sharing an update from the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier (BTB) team for residents and local businesses who are interested in seeing one of the area’s most important infrastructure projects up close.

Following very high demand, all public site visit places for March, April and May 2026 are now fully booked. In response, the BTB team has released additional monthly site visit dates from June through to October 2026.

The public visits offer a unique opportunity to:

  • Hear directly from project representatives about the scheme and its progress
  • Learn how the project is being delivered in a sustainable and innovative way
  • Understand more about the flood protection and environmental benefits for Bridgwater and surrounding communities

Each visit lasts between one and a half and two hours. Sessions include a short presentation followed by a guided view of the construction area from a designated viewing platform.

The BTB Scheme aims to create a community that is more resilient to tidal flooding and climate change, and these visits help explain how the scheme is being built and what it will mean for local homes, businesses and infrastructure.

How to book

Bookings for all remaining 2026 site visits, including the newly released June to October dates, can be made online at:

Once you have booked onto a session, you will receive an information pack about a week before your visit with everything you need to know in advance.

If you have any questions before booking, you can contact the project team by emailing bridgwater.barrier@environment-agency.gov.uk.

The Chamber is encouraging local businesses and residents to take this opportunity to learn more about the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier and the role it plays in protecting the area for the future.
