BTC working together with British Gymnastics to help springboard future coaching talent!

Tuesday 17th November, 2020

Working together with employers and industry specialists, community organisations and awarding bodies, Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) have developed innovative and bespoke training solutions required by business – delivering Ofsted Outstanding Apprenticeships programmes across England and recently achieving 12th place in the country at RateMyApprenticeship’s Top Training provider 2020-2021.

One of the national businesses currently working with BTC and supporting our students through Apprenticeship programmes are British Gymnastics.

The British Gymnastics Apprenticeship programme provides clubs and individuals the opportunity to create full-time careers in gymnastics, supporting the development of young coaches who are already invested in the sport. Since the very beginning of these Apprenticeship programmes, around 100 learners have enrolled on a programme – making steps towards a career in sport either through their club or by going on to do further learning at university.

Orla O’Regan is an apprentice on the Community Activator Coach Apprenticeship programme with British Gymnastics and is based at Penryn Gymnastics in Penryn, Cornwall.

Orla has achieved fantastic feedback and success throughout the programme, resulting in an overall Distinction for all three elements of her End Point Assessment (EPA)– Presentation, Interview and Observation.

Orla’s assessor had fantastic feedback on her final report –

“Orla has a complete understanding of what is required to be a successful Community Activator Coach in a gymnastics setting. The teamwork and leadership skills shown by Orla are far above her years but have been developed through many years of volunteering in different environments.”

Clubs who have benefited from taking on apprentices have found it has increased their ability to offer a more diverse range of classes and increase participation.

With the government’s latest announcement, employers have various incentives to recruit apprentices before the end of January 2021. The Business Development team continue to work closely with businesses – supporting them with current apprentices on programme, new recruitment and also working together to support businesses with a variety of training solutions such as Distance Learning, Industry Placements, Traineeships and more!
