Bridgwater & Taunton College takes local action to mark Colleges Week 2021

Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) will be supporting the annual Love Our Colleges campaign again this year, with a series of digital case studies, blogs and press releases highlighting the outstanding work and positive impact of the College on its students, the wider community, business partners and the economy.

This year’s theme is ‘Get In, Go Further’ that will showcase all of the great things that happen in BTC everyday – the courses, the staff, the facilities. Reminding our local communities about the benefits that College brings to people’s everyday lives. 

Students and alumni at BTC go on incredible, awe-inspiring journeys and destinations and Colleges Week will highlight some of these victories across all of our digital platforms.

On Wednesday 20 October, BTC are inviting businesses into the Digital Hub at the Taunton Campus for a Business Solutions Breakfast at 8am-10.30am. This is an opportunity for networking and information sharing, with the chance to understand and gain insight into the upcoming changes and developments in the world of work-based training. Principal and CEO, Andy Berry will be welcoming businesses, chambers and councils to the event to inform our local communities on how BTC are supporting the wider skills agenda in Somerset and beyond. They’ll be an ‘Employer in the Spotlight’ talk, updates from our Business Development team and various solutions suggested to help support your business.

On Thursday 21 and Friday 22 October, University Centre Somerset will be hosting our graduation ceremonies to celebrate these achievements.

Principal and CEO, Andy Berry said: “Our aim is to ensure that all our students are properly equipped with the skills they need and can make a difference in whatever career they choose to pursue. Colleges Week not only highlights the need for proper investment to make this happen but also showcases the amazing place Bridgwater & Taunton College is for students and staff. 

“This year’s week of action comes at a crucial time. The big contribution further education will make to the country’s economic rebuild must be recognised and long-term investment is vital if we are to combat long-term challenges like climate change and training workers for the jobs of the future.”

David Hughes, Chief Executive of the Association of Colleges, said:

“Colleges Week showcases exactly why further education holds the answers to some of the biggest issues facing all of us. Now more than ever we need highly skilled and well-educated workforces to deliver the economic recovery this government aspires to. 

“Colleges Week this year is about celebrating the amazing work colleges do, educating 2.2 million people every year, including more than 600,000 16 to 18-year-olds. They hold the key to reducing skills gaps, combatting inequality, and providing better opportunities to disadvantaged communities. This week is about making our voices heard and campaigning with partners to make sure colleges continue to be a serious political, economic and social priority.”
