Bridgwater Town Deal Board Needs Your Views on its Vision

Friday 9th October, 2020

The historic town of Bridgwater is being given a once-in-a-generation opportunity for a major refresh and the Board responsible for managing the process is reaching out to the community for feedback on its ideas so far.

Bridgwater was one of 100 towns asked by the Government to come up with plans for sustainable regeneration over the next 30 years with as much as £25m of public money available to support suitable proposals.

A Bridgwater Town Deal Board was formed soon after the Government announcement and today the Board has published its Vision, Aims and Priorities which it is inviting residents, businesses and other stakeholders to view.

The Board’s independent chairperson, Fiona McMillan, said: “This is a vital opportunity to shape the next chapter of Bridgwater’s economic success and pave the way for its recovery in a post-Covid world.

“We would be grateful if people with an interest in and love of the town would spend a few minutes on completing our survey and providing us with comments in time for our next meeting as we prepare our case to Government.”

Sedgemoor District Council portfolio holder for Inward Investment and Growth, Cllr Gill Slocombe, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to build on our success in attracting private and public investment to the town and we look forward to hearing what people have to say about the plans for this next phase.”

The web pages give an indication of the town’s potential and the challenges it faces. The main aims of the Board will be to make the most of the opportunities it has, revitalise the centre and improve accessibility. They can be found on the Sedgemoor District Council website here or at the following URL: https://www.sedgemoor.gov.uk/bridgwatertownsfund

The deadline for completing the survey is October 20th. It is quick and easy to complete and can be accessed here or at the following URL: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/bridgwatertowndealvision
