Silver Recognition Awarded to New Leaf

Tuesday 4th August, 2020

Bridgwater Chamber Member New leaf announces being awarded Silver Award by The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and the UK Ministry of Defence.

Becky Wright Founder of New Leaf said, “ For us signing The Covenant is about doing the right thing for Armed Forces people. In the past year we have offered free places to Veterans, Military Charities, Reserves, Military Spouses & Service Leavers and they are now fully qualified Mental health First Aiders. They can use this qualification with any job their further apply for.”

The course provided a much-needed level playing field from those from the Military to meet and integrate with the civilian business community. This Military Civilian Integration can allow the possibility of new work opportunities.

Here is the view from some of our participants who accepted the free places.

“I really enjoyed the workshop. I already had some knowledge of, and interest in, mental health having ran my own Bereavement support group for some years. I found the course increased my knowledge and understanding, and I know the things I have learnt will be invaluable within the workplace. I enjoyed the mix of both military personnel, their families and the local business community. It was nice to have such an integration.”

“Becky, This was a fantastic course, I now feel confident as a new mental health first aider, it was really good to attend this course alongside civilians, it gave such a broad spectrum of experience and knowledge from the various people who attended the course.”

New Leaf have also become a CTP preferred supplier for the UK Ministry of Defence with help throughout from the Wessex RFCA. They are looking forward to a regional award ceremony when planned.
