Businesses Gather for BBQ and Crime Talk with Avon & Somerset Police Commissioner

Thursday 27th July, 2023

The Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce hosted a highly successful Summer Social BBQ on 26th July at the picturesque Greenway Farm. The event provided an excellent opportunity for local businesses to come together, build relationships, and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere amidst the scenic surroundings.

One of the highlights of the event was the special guest appearance of Avon & Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Shelford, who actively engaged with the attendees throughout the evening. Mark Shelford, along with his deputy police and crime commissioner, Claire Hiscott, engaged with business owners and discussed various crime-related concerns that were on the minds of the business community.

Some 40 individuals from diverse local businesses booked onto the event, and the presence of Mark Shelford and Claire Hiscott added immense value to the occasion. Bridgwater business owners had the unique opportunity for one-on-one discussions with the Police and Crime Commissioner, enabling them to address their specific queries and gain insights into the direction for policing in Avon and Somerset.

During his speech, Mark Shelford shed light on the key priorities of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, highlighting their efforts to combat drug-related issues, violence against women, and cybercrime. He also engaged in an interactive Q&A session, where he answered questions directly from the floor, providing valuable clarity and transparency.

Diogo Rodrigues, Manager of the Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce, expressed his gratitude to Mark Shelford stating, “We are delighted to have had the Police and Crime Commissioner and his deputy attend our Summer Social BBQ. This event offered an excellent platform for Bridgwater businesses to engage in meaningful discussions about their crime-related concerns. The Chamber is committed to collaborating with all key figures and ensuring that local businesses have direct access to them. We value the opportunity to work alongside the Avon & Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner’s office to address issues that matter most to our business community.”

The event was a success, not only fostering relationships between local businesses but also fostering a growing sense of security and trust between the business community and law enforcement. The Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce looks forward to hosting similar events in the future, facilitating even more opportunities for fruitful dialogue and collaboration.
