Thursday 3rd February, 2022

It is small wonder that local business, New Leaf, are excited about their latest achievement, having joined the 600 qualifying organisations in the UK who have B Corp certification. The company is the only Mental Health Training Company in the UK who has achieved this status.

New Leaf, a Somerset based workplace well-being company has announced today it joins a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose, as well as profit. New Leaf Life Design has been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of profit.

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company is required to legally embed their commitment to purpose, beyond profit, in their company articles. New Leaf scored a top score of 109.9.  Well known brands who have joined this movement include ,The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia, BrewDog, The Body Shop and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole to name a few.

We know that New Leaf Life Design are going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward”.

“Being able to welcome New Leaf Life Design to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit”.

Becky Wright, Creative director of New leaf reflects:

“It has taken two years to achieve this accreditation and made us rethink much of our operation, but we did it! My thanks to Melanie Huggins who guided us through this journey. Our final verification score was 109.9 – you pass having achieved 80, so we couldn’t be more delighted. It’s an exciting new chapter for New Leaf.”

Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce members New Leaf, who deliver training on well-being and mental health first aid at work will be offering a 10% discount to other B Corp companies who would benefit from this support and indeed, three well known B Corp companies have already benefitted from this in the UK including The Body Shop, BrewDog and Riverford Organics.
