Chamber of Commerce Hosts Government Minister Rebecca Pow MP for Environmental Networking Event

Friday 21st April, 2023

Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted a business networking event featuring Rebecca Pow MP, a Government minister at the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs.

The event, which took place at The Canalside conference centre in Bridgwater, was well attended by local businesses and community leaders eager to learn about the government’s Environmental developments and the crucial role that businesses play in reducing carbon emissions and supporting the government’s net zero goals.

During the event, Rebecca Pow MP delivered an engaging address, highlighting the government’s commitment to achieving net zero and the importance of businesses in driving sustainable practices. She emphasized the need for collaboration and communication between elected representatives and the business community to tackle the pressing issue of climate change and achieve a greener future for generations to come.

Rebecca said“ It was a pleasure to meet with the large turnout of diverse businesses at the Bridgwater Chamber event and to share views on the business economy”

Our net zero strategy sets out the long term ambition to cut emissions by 2050, whilst seizing the opportunities of the green transition.  This will bring with it thousands of new jobs and our region will play a key part, not least through the nuclear industry which has wide benefits for Bridgwater and Taunton with skills and training links at the University Centre at Bridgwater & Taunton College

“Low carbon technology has a positive future and net zero fairness is an important part of our plans where the biggest polluters pay the most”

“I also shared insights into our new waste and recycling measures where we are working closely with business to ensure we develop systems that work for everyone in order to dramatically cut the waste we produce and the amount we recycle.”

Guests at the event expressed their appreciation for the informative talk and discussion led by Rebecca Pow MP. The networking opportunities provided by the event also allowed local businesses to connect, share ideas, and explore potential collaborations.

In a statement, Bridgwater Chamber Manager Diogo Rodrigues said, “We were honoured to have Rebecca Pow MP as our guest at this important networking event. Her insights on the government’s environmental strategy and the role of businesses in addressing climate change were enlightening. We are committed to supporting our local business community in adopting sustainable practices, and events like these help raise awareness and foster meaningful discussions among our members.”

As Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce continues to promote sustainable business practices, it looks forward to hosting more engaging events that bring together businesses and community leaders to drive positive change and contribute to the government’s net zero goals.
