The Somerset Careers Hub, established in collaboration with The Careers and Enterprise Company, helps transform careers education for young people across Somerset.

Somerset Careers Hub brings together education, employers and training providers to ensure every young person across Somerset can access high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance.

We work with state-funded middle and secondary schools, special educational needs schools, independent SEND schools, alternative provisions and FE colleges in Somerset. We also support primary schools through our Dream Big Somerset project, helping to challenge stereotypes and inspire children from an early age to explore the wide range of opportunities available to them.

Working closely with employers, colleges, independent training providers and careers professionals, we support the delivery of the Gatsby Benchmarks and create meaningful connections between young people and the world of work. We work closely with employers across Somerset and beyond to bring real workplace experiences, industry insight and inspiration into education, helping students understand the vast range of career pathways and opportunities available to them. Through employer encounters, workplace visits, mentoring, careers events and work experience opportunities, we help young people explore their options, develop essential employability skills and make informed decisions about their future.

The Careers Hub plays a key role in supporting local skills development by identifying current and future workforce needs and ensuring this intelligence informs educational provision across the county. Through strong partnerships with the Somerset Education Business Partnership, Careers & Pathways Team and Supported Employment Team, we help connect education with industry and support positive outcomes for young people.

Our current priorities include supporting schools with the refined Gatsby Benchmarks and preparing for the modernisation of work experience, including the planned introduction of 50 hours of work experience for all young people by the end of Year 11 from the 2026/27 academic year.

By building strong links between education and employment, Somerset Careers Hub is helping young people develop the skills, confidence and aspirations they need to succeed in the modern workplace.
