Young Somerset welcomed more than 150 guests, including young people, families, supporters and staff, on Thursday 18 June for a special evening celebrating the remarkable young people it works with across the county.
The Young Somerset Awards recognised young people who have shown courage, creativity, determination and personal growth during their time with the charity’s team. The evening celebrated not only outstanding achievements, but also the progress, confidence and contribution of young people on their individual journeys.
Held at The Canalside in Bridgwater, the awards featured a glitzy backdrop, red carpet arrival, welcome drinks and a room fit for the Oscars, creating a memorable celebration for everyone attending.
Nik Harwood, CEO of Young Somerset, said: “The Young Somerset Awards for Young People are, simply, about believing in young people. They recognise courage, creativity, resilience and contribution in all its forms, not just polished achievement. Across Somerset, young people are navigating complex lives, yet they continue to show care, ambition, humour, talent and hope. These awards give us a moment to pause, listen, celebrate and say: you matter, your voice matters and your future matters. At Young Somerset we put young people first because when they are seen, supported and celebrated, the whole of Somerset is stronger. That is absolutely worth shouting about every single day.”
Richard, parent of Tom a Young Somerset finalist said: “I would like to congratulate everyone at Young Somerset on such a well-organised and memorable evening. Having attended many events over the years, this was genuinely one of the best – thoughtful, generous and superbly delivered. It was especially pleasing to see young people given the celebration and recognition they truly deserved, and the care and hard work behind the scenes was clear throughout. A real credit to everyone involved.”
More than just an awards ceremony, the evening highlighted the importance of creating spaces where young people feel seen, supported and celebrated, while recognising the positive role they play in communities across Somerset.
